Sustainability simply means meeting the needs of today with available natural resources without jeopardizing the ability of future generation to meet their own needs from these resources. It follows the sense of a circular economy as signified by the Roller-Coaster Wheel shown above.
Certainly, achieving sustainability is a process that requires global solidarity, hence all hands must be on deck, behoving on everyone no matter the age, gender, or status to do his, or her own little bit. Also, in our domestic, profession, and business spaces to responsibly utilize human and material resources at our disposable recognizing the inter-dependency/inter-connectedness of all things in the entire universe. Thus, appreciating that our actions, or inactions impact on all of us one way, or another. For instance, it is obvious that the spate of industrial activities driven by our consumption pattern and attitude responds to our need and greed, thus, we have, wittingly, or unwittingly, as a consequent, mortgaged our future, as indicated by increasing climatic catastrophes we are witnessing nowadays; characterised by wanton destruction of plant and animal lives, flooding, Carbon-dioxide/GHGs emissions leading up to the depletion of the ozone layer, and global warming. These are in addition to the current onslaughts from man-made biological weapons targeting the human natural immune system which further endanger livelihoods. This is a clarion call for action, both at individual and at team levels for us to do our little bit taking cogent steps to halt these existential challenges confronting us at different levels and at various degrees so as to save ourselves, humanity and the planet from imminent destruction.
The main pillars of Sustainability are namely Environmental protection, Socio-economic Justice, and Good Governance (Democracy). Hence every activity of man, particularly Businesses should be assessed based on, not only the carbon foot-prints, but on their Sutainability Performance Index which encompases the triple bottom line of Social, Economic, and Environmental considerations, in other words, its scale of preference on People, Process, and Profits ladder.
In the Agricultural and Manufacturing sectors, maintaining Good Agricultural Practice (GAP), and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), amongst other quality assessment/assurance systems that are aimed at ensuring products safety, quality, and durability for the benefits of mankind, and by extension the environment, contribute to extension of life spans, and effectively Sustainability. So, Consumers would be supporting Sustainability when they insist on products quality, and value delivery; hence, rejecting, or eschewing poor quality, unsafe, or one-time use products that do not last, instead result in the culture of buy, use and throwaway syndrome.
However, 'WasteAverse' as a value-centric enterprise is committed to recycling, repurposing and re-distribution of Goods, atleast provide second-hand value aimed at extending life spans, curbing wastages, and enhancing Societal well-being. Also, we draw attention to the many practicable ways that each and every individual can adopt at home, in the office, or workplace to contribute meaningfully towards achieving sustainable living. A sure pathway is in; 'Living Simply, so that Others can Simply Live'; maintaining balanced nutrition and healthy lifestyle, keeping fit, cutting down on wastages, being resource efficient, reducing costs & conflicts, and embracing eco-intelligence to protect the environment. These are credible pathways towards being a happy, self-motivated ally, or friend of the Planet.
